This is a variant of the Charm Spell that is available only to Mages who
have graduated from Storm’s Academy, the Citadel. When casting this Spell, the Mage must have a clear view of
the target and the target must be able to both hear and understand the Mage.
Once the Spell is cast, the Will Power of the Mage is compared to that of
the victim and, if the Mage is the stronger, the victim will believe that the
Mage is a creature from their worst nightmare.
The casting
Mage does not need to know what the target fears, their own subconscious will
supply the focus of the Fear, but the Mage does have to act in a strong and
forceful manner. How the victim
will react is dependent upon what sort of personality they have.
Usually, although not always, they will try to flee from the thing that
they Fear but occasionally, they will attack the Mage.
When this happens, the victim will normally attack in a blind fury and it
will be impossible to reason with them.
If the
target has a stronger Will Power than the casting Mage, they will see nothing
other than the Mage and the Spell will be wasted.
At higher levels, this Spell has a greater range, a longer duration and
it can affect more than one target.
Liassa
watched as the chain-mail clad warrior pushed his way through the crowded
street, directly towards her. She
knew it had been a mistake to come into this town where he had a price on her
head, but she needed to stock up on provisions if she as going to make the long
journey home.
The Mage considered simply Blasting
the approaching bounty hunter with an Electric Bolt but, judging by his hulking
size, the fool probably wouldn’t even notice one and she might not have time
to cast another. No, there had to
be another way to deal with this problem.
Liassa waited until she was close
enough to the warrior to see the remains of his last meal caught in his beard
before she loosed the Spell that she had been preparing.
The bounty hunter froze as she completed the Spell and his ruddy face
turned pale as his eyes widened in horror.
For half a second, the warrior and
the Mage stared at each other and then the bounty hunter span round and forced
his way through the crowd, running as fast as he could.
For a long time after he had vanished from sight, Liassa could hear his
terrified screams and she allowed herself a contended smile as she went about
the rest of her shopping.
