This simple but useful Spell allows the Mage to set fire to flammable
substances without having to touch them. The
most common use of this Spell is to light camp-fire, candles and the like and it
is very impressive as far as the general population are concerned.
The
more vindictive and malicious Mages have been known to use this Spell to set
light to the clothing, belongings or even hair or beards of foes.
Although the flames are easily put out and unlikely to do any real
damage, the fear effect can be extremely useful in tricky situations.
The
duration of the Magical Flames created by this Spell is measured in parts of
seconds, but the flames spread from the spark will last until they are either
put out or run out of flammable substances.
At
higher levels, the range of this Spell is increased, the Magical Flames will
last for longer and will set light to substances that do not normally burn.
Flesh, stone and even metal can be ignited at the highest levels of the
Ignite Spell.
Sheeana shivered in the gloom of the tavern.
Ever since she had walked in, the atmosphere had been bleak and
foreboding and the Mage was starting to seriously regret deciding to spend the
night in this run down village.
The
villagers were very mistrustful of her and she knew it was just a matter of time
before they attempted to move this mistrust up to violence.
She had seen it far too many times before.
The superstitious and uneducated peasants feared what they could not
understand and the Art of Magic was far, far above their understanding.
“Better
to get it over with, I suppose,” Sheeana said to herself as she pondered what
Spell to use to impress the locals with her power.
She had had a taxing day and her strength was growing weak, but the Spell
still had to look good.
With a
grin, she saw that the table next to hers had an unlit candle on it.
Three burly locals sat around the table and the glances they directed at
the Mage were anything but friendly. Muttering
the words to Ignite, Sheeana gestured at the until candle.
Sparks
flew from her hand and enveloped the candle for a moment.
Even in that brief time the wax melted slightly and the wick flared into
life. Chairs fell backwards as the
locals jumped to their feet in fear and surprise.
“Sorry
gentlemen,” said the grinning Mage. “I
like to see who I’m sharing a room with.
It helps if any debts have to be repaid later!”
Sheeana
returned to her drink, certain that there would be no more trouble in this
tavern tonight.
