Misdirection is a very useful Spell if the Casting
Mage wishes to get into, or out of, a location without being spotted.
Once Cast, the Mage’s Will Power is compared to that of the target and,
if the Mage is stronger, the victim will completely ignore the Mage for up to 1
minute.
If the
Mage does anything to directly affect the victim, the Misdirection Spell will be
shattered and the target will be able to notice the Mage once again. Directly affecting includes talking to, attacking, Casting
offensive Spells or even just brushing against the target.
The
Casting Mage is simply invisible as far as the target is concerned but this
protection does not extend to any of the Mage’s companions, nor does it
include anyone but the target.
At
higher levels, Misdirection will allow a greater range and duration and it will
affect larger numbers of targets. It
should be noted that Misdirection will work as equally well against animals as
it will against humans.
Timac froze as the gigantic bear approached him.
The huge animal looked hungry and gaunt and Timac was in no doubt that he
was to be considered to be on the beast’s menu.
The
Mage quickly thought through his options. Magic
Blast – no, the creature would hardly notice the damage and Timac didn’t
have the time to send more than one Blast into it.
Ignite – possibly, but on the other hand it might just enrage the bear.
No,
the answer had to be Misdirection. He
quickly Cast the Spell and casually strolled past the bear and onto the path
that led down the hill and out of the forest.
As the Mage passed within a couple of feet of the animal, it started
sniffing at the roots of an upturned tree and began eating the grubs that it
found there.
Timac
had an incredible urge to boot the creature on the backside as he passed, but he
easily controlled this suicidal desire. Powerful
Mage he might be, but the bear still looked quite capable of tearing his head
off before he could Cast a Spell.
Timac
picked up the pace and left the bear to its frugal meal.
