A brief history of Ayersgarth

On a far-removed world known as Rengarth, an unmeasurable distance across the Void, the Shrouded City of Rhuidean housed the Tok'Ra (Wise Ones). A prophecy was forged within the ancient walls of the city, and the future held turmoil for the wold. And one child would bring all of this about. The Ruling House of Hez'Erai worked hard to thwart the prophecy, and a great ritual was peformed in veneration of the Ancestor Llolth, the patron of the Hez'Erai, and the Twelve Ancestors of Magic. Shortly afterwards, the Shrouded City was removed from Rengarth and transported to the Void.

The Ancestors of Magic, in a joint venture with Llolth, blessed the House of Hez’Erai so that all who were born to the true line of Hez’Erai would be female, and that each would bear only one child. However, when Ayersgarth was born male, it was considered an ill omen. Ayersgarth was born the thirteenth in the line of Hez’Erai in his Aeil clan. His mother, a Jann'Ar (Shield Maiden), had wronged her people and was made Gai’Shain (servant) before anyone knew she was carrying a child.

When Ayersgarth was old enough he was taken into the Sept of the Tok'Ra, but was forbidden to learn of the secrets of Incantors. Instead he learned of Ritual Magic and Spellcasting. He became a Pah'Ou (Ritualist). The reason behind this forbidding was never revealed to him, although the matter was discussed in hushed tones many times amongst the Tok'Ra.

When he was eighteen his Grandmother, the Hez'Erai (High Mistress/Matron Mother) of the Clan passed away and, in a struggle for power, the Shardovan (Brothers of the Eagle) of his Clan rose up and slew the rest of his people. Only one Toj'Ra escaped the destruction and she led Ayersgarth away to safety so that the line of Hez’Erai could continue. Ayersgarth did not knowthat this place was another world, known as Erdreja. She gave to Ayersgarth the book of his Grandmother, the Darkhold, which contained all of the writings of each of his ancestors going back twelve generations. It also contained spells and Rituals that his Clan had gathered over five hundred years.

The World of Rengarth was in turmoil, and as mage fought against mage, the magic of the world turned crucible, and the world became lost in the Void.

Ayersgarth was apprenticed on Erdreja to a mage called Iltak, one who was not associated with the Guild of Mages. Iltak treated Ayersgarth like a slave and taught very little magic. Ayersgarth stayed with Iltak for four years before he finally could not take Iltak’s treatment anymore. Ayersgarth dueled Iltak using all of the powers he had learned as Tok'Ra, first taking his master by surprise by striking him mute, and then casting a spell of distraction before jumping upon his master’s back and slitting his throat. Taking all of Iltak’s books and scrolls, Ayersgarth left the tower of his old master in flames. He wandered the desert for some time before being guided by an unseen force to the Shrouded City of Rhuidean. In this abandoned city of the Aeil Ayersgarth studied the books and scrolls of his master as best he could. He remained there for a year before leaving to return to the Deserts.

After a time, he came upon the Children of the Dust and was accepted as a Tok'Ra because of his heritage. He has remained as a Tok'Ra in the Children of the Dust until leaving to join House Sar'Donnath where he has been made more than welcome and has the freedom and blessing to continue his work and research unhindered.

Since joining House Sar'Donnath, he has risen to the position of Speaker of the Sul'Kath Council, a position of great responsibility, reporting directly to the Crown Prince, Arion.
