Tolarin Dar'Kath
Tolarin originally served
in a regiment of house troops that explored the regions around the Sar'Donnath
homelands. He took part in a number of missions to scout new lands and
investigate new peoples. His last mission with this regiment was part of a
patrol sent to
investigate the newly discovered lands that were Erdreja, and to see if it was a
worthwhile conquest.
The Varallans attacked the homelands while the
patrol was still in Erdreja and they became stranded and alone. When the true
extent of the disaster unfolded their mission changed from one of observation to
one of survival. While the house took to their ships and escaped the
Varallans his patrol spent the three years isolated from the rest of the House,
observing the various factions and trying to survive.
Of the twenty men in the patrol, only
five survived long enough to link up with the House. The information that
they provided gave the house a basis for interaction with the factions that
eventually resulted in the alliance with the Wolf Faction. The arrival of the
survivors of the house confirmed Tolarin's worst fears about his family.
Neither his wife nor son were among the huddled refugees.
With the death of his family and the long
years of isolation, Tolarin has become very withdrawn, seeking little
interaction with the House. He is still an accomplished soldier, entrusted with
a variety of tasks and missions, but he lacks the enthusiasm he once had. Some
whisper that he has lost faith with Lordhel, others criticize the fact that he
has quite public arguments with both Sophia and the StillWalkers. Where
once he obeyed orders blindly, he now has questions .
While he may or may not question the will
of Lordhel, he has publicly sworn to serve prince Arion, an oath he has carried
out time and time again.
