Description
The Feybane are a highly specialised unit of troops originally created to hunt down Fey warriors. They are covered in protective runes to nullify hostile magic. They also wear a loose robe, which allows them to conceal throwing weapons. This is often augmented with a cloak that is camouflaged to allow the Feybane to remain unseen.
Feybane also carry a belt or bandoleer with holds the soul-stones of ritually slain foes. These stones allow some of the skills of the slain foe to be used to aid in the hunt, and can provide value information about the environment that the entrapped soul once lived in.
When a soldier becomes a Feybane he must absorb part of a Fey’s pattern to power the runes. This melding results in some side effects, which begin to show as the Feybane ages. Ultimately the soldier will become so corrupted that he or she will no longer be able to serve the house, at which point he is stripped of all weapons and sent on the ‘last hunt’ After a small head start they are hunted down and killed.

Society
Compared to most of the House troops the Feybane are jolly and almost ill-disciplined, most of this is a front to keep people off guard. Although they really do enjoy hunting down foes they are professional when at work.
One of the most welcoming sects within the Dar’Kath the Feybane get on well with other races, mainly because they want to study any kills they may have. Also they have an affinity with anything that hunts. As the life of a Feybane is often short compared to other Elves, the job is extremely high risk most of them have an easy attitude to death. It is considered moving on to the greater hunt.
One of the more interesting aspects is the last order system, in which the last order of the commander of the unit stands even if he dies. This grew out of a need for a unit to keep operating even if the leader was slain. Feybane often mock Stillwalkers, complaining that they are to serious and don’t do any real work, but they do have respect for their skills. They are also very loyal to unit they are attached to.

Combat

Feybane fight in units of five, called a claw. Each unit is designed to be almost self-sufficient and will include at least one magic user or healer.
The Feybane will identify the target and the destroy it, depending on the circumstances. One of the more usual tactics is a combination of a distraction followed by charge from all sides. The Feybane will strike while moving, to keep the enemy confused and gut the foe before it hits the ground. This strategy was adopted to deal with regenerating creatures.
Individually the Feybane fight with a multitude of different styles, each one will have at least three very different styles of combat, this aids them when dealing with different targets.

History

The FeyBane are very secretive about their past, with many of them not even knowing the truth of where this mysterious unit came from.  Recent studies from Jaime, the House Librarian, have uncovered more information on the shrouded history of this group.
